Ah, yes, the coveted Hall H. If San Diego Comic-Con is Mecca for nerds, then all are required to worship within the stinky, suffocating Hall H at least once in their lives. Inside the hallowed Hall H – or harrowing, depending what you think of it – only the biggest, most anticipated projects get to tease and tantalize with snippets of footage and promises of even better things to come. So, it’s a tad surprising to learn Lionsgate are the first to announce a panel in Hall H for both The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and I, Frankenstein. On Saturday July 20th no less, easily the busiest day of the con.

We’re still awaiting announcements from both Marvel and Warner Bros., as they’re expected to also present in Hall H on Saturday, but this primo placement for Catching Fire speaks volumes about not only the franchises’ popularity but its nerd credibility. If you’ll recall, the Twilight panels were always held on Thursday, before Comic-Con gets into full swing. And while I always felt folks needlessly compared The Hungers Games to Twilight, I’m pumped to see it given a place of honor among this year’s Comic-Con attractions.

The filmmakers and stars of both films are expected to attend the panel moderated by Fandango’s Dave Karger. What do you think of this development? Excited to see these films presenting at Comic-Con? If you’re attending/were you attending, would you suffer through Hall H for Lionsgate’s panel?

Fandango Fans as Most Anticipated 2013 Movie

LOS ANGELES – June 26, 2013 – Lionsgate announced today that Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger will moderate a panel on Saturday, July 20th at the San Diego Comic-Con, featuring talent and exclusive footage from two of the studio’s upcoming films THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE (opening November 22, 2013, the film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth) and I, FRANKENSTEIN (opening January 24, 2014, the film stars Aaron Eckhart, Yvonne Strahovski and Bill Nighy). Talent from both films will be in attendance for the panel during which the studio will debut an exclusive new trailer for THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE and never-before-seen footage from I, FRANKENSTEIN.

Starting today, moviegoers will have the chance to submit questions for panel participants through the films’ Facebook pages (www.facebook.com/thehungergamesmovie and www.facebook.com/ifrankensteinmovie) and Fandango’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/fandango) using the hashtags #CatchingFireComicCon and #IFrankensteinComicCon. Answers to select questions will be posted on those Facebook pages.

Fandango fans have been closely following the entire HUNGER GAMES saga from its first day of production. A January 2013 moviegoer survey of thousands of moviegoers on Fandango found that the film’s follow-up, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, was voted the most anticipated movie of the year.
