I don’t know about you guys, but I’m kind of liking these snapshots of the vehicles appearing in the upcoming Transformers 4. They’re kind of like collector cards, and Michael Bay is releasing the whole set one card at a time. But maybe I’m crazy, and maybe we’re all crazy too for thinking that this latest shot is of Autobot Ultra Magnus.
That’s the grand assumption stemming from this shot of a 2014 Argosy cab-over truck by Freightliner. Now Ultra Magnus has had many forms over the years, originally he was just kind of a re-painted Optimus Prime figure but towing one of those car racks that transports multiple vehicles at a time rather than a full cargo trailer. (Apologies to car buffs everywhere, but I don’t know what that “car rack” is really called.) So could another truck cab be an obvious nod to Ultra Magnus?
Of the shot itself, which was posted on Michael Bay.com, the picture came with the following description: “The adventure continues to transform with a very different offering from Daimler Trucks North America . . . the imposing 2014 Argosy cab-over truck by Freightliner.”
Most casual fans of Transformers will likely recognize Ultra Magnus from his first appearance in the animated Transformers The Movie where we voiced by Unsolved Mysterious host Robert Stack, and he was the the presumptive successor to Optimus Prime as leader of the Autobots. Is this bad news for Optimus for Transformers 4? Well, the whole identity of this car is a supposition as it is.
Transformers 4 is currently shooting with a release date scheduled for next summer. We’ll have more news as it develops.
