The success of Warner Bros. Man of Steel was quickly followed by the company announcing that they were going to get on track to make not only a sequel to that film, but a full-on Justice League flick. And now that the news is official, an old question is being revived – will we see Christian Bale don the cape and cowl and jump onboard the JL cast? Well, once again Bale and company have reiterated that a return to the same Batman is not bloody likely.
In addition to comments made by David S. Goyer and Zack Snyder, in which they have both said they’ll need to reboot Batman before moving on to Justice League, Bale himself has said no way. He doesn’t want to do it and hasn’t even been asked to do it. Or, in his own words:
I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it.
It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.
We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy. Chris always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.
So there you have it folks. No more Bale Batman and, thus, no Bale in Justice League. Things may change, of course, as the DC team film is still years away, but in the meantime just leave the poor guy alone already.
Thanks to /film for the heads-up.
