Wes Ball‘s directorial debut, The Maze Runner, has put some production stills out on the Internet. The movie is based on the trilogy of novels by young-adult author James Dashner and follows the story of a bunch of male teenagers who wake up in a weird walled in maze with no idea what they’re doing there or why. It’s a mixture reminiscent of The Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies, and Battle Royale.
MTV posted the new stills and with the movie making an appearance at SDCC 2013 we can expect to see a lot more in the near future.
When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade — a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.
Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.
Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.
Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.
Hmm, one girl enters . . . that’s not going to cause any problems in a maze full of hormone raging pubescent boys . . . nope, nothing to see there. The books are on my “To Read List” and when I can get a copy cheap or for free I’ll check those out.
If you’ve read the books, what do you think of the series and what you’ve seen of the movie so far?
The Maze Runner hits theater screens on February 11th, 2014.
