The 2003 Korean version of Oldboy directed by Chan-wook Pak (who just made his American debut with Stoker) is something of a modern classic, as well as being one of the best examples of the new wave of Korean cinema that sprang up in the first years of the century. So how can an American remake do any justice to the original? Good question, perhaps this  will offer a hint…

That’s the trailer for Oldboy directed by Spike Lee. Starring Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley, Samuel L. Jackson, and Elizabeth Olsen, the film follows a man’s quest for vengeance after his daughter is taken by the same man that held him captive for 20 years. The trailer is red band, so react appropriately. Oldboy will be out in theaters everywhere on October 25th.
