Although its received decent reviews, Variety made a very biased prediction that Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim would bomb at the box office, estimating that it would bring in roughly $25-35 million during its opening weekend – for a movie that cost over $185 million to produce, that would hurt. But the numbers seem to be proving them wrong.
Early numbers show that Fandango has sold 60% of its advanced tickets for Pacific Rim. To put that into perspective, it’s already doing better than World War Z, which pulled in $66 million its opening weekend – also surprising the critics. It also scored 90% on Fandango’s Fanticipation Buzz indicator, making it a highly anticipated film this weekend. So it’s safe to say it has a pretty good chance at the box office.
In any case, we shall find out in the days to come. Will you be one of the people adding to its box office numbers this weekend?
