Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ABOVE: If you’ve been paying attention to my other Nerdy Bits columns, you probably know that I love steampunk. You also probably know that Jean Grey is my spirit animal. So, this cosplay featuring two corseted X-Men, including my favorite fellow ginger Phoenix, is making me drool, big time! Photo by Ron McKitrick. [Fashionably Geek]
Words with Friends be damned! What nerds really need is Words with Hobbits (aka Hobbit Scrabble). Besides being wonderfully geeky, this game is also gorgeous to look at! And the price isn’t too shabby either, it’s only $29.99 at ThinkGeek.
Last night’s Jeopardy got severely nerdy with this question. [Instagram]
On the surface, this “Price of Being Batman” infographic is rather cool, but once you look closer…. not so much. There’s no way Wayne Manor only costs $444,000! [Mashable]
No city is safe from LEGO Mothra!!! [Gizmodo]
Check out this stunning unpublished painting by Harry Potter illustrator Mary GrandPre. If you’re like me, GrandPre’s illustrations added an extra layer of wonder to the already magical books. Seeing these extra images brings back ALL THE FEELS of reading the books for the first time. Geekologie has 15 more glorious images.
Aw, this super cute robot will keep your little nerdlets distracted when they go to the doctor to get a shot! The robot, named MEDi, greets kids with a high five and asks adorable questions about the movies they like to watch! [Geekologie]
You know, this is a damn fine collection of clips. [Cultbox]
Screen Junkies and their Honest Trailers do it again, this time with X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
As someone who’s legally blind and a Star Wars fan, I encourage you to throw your money at this Kickstarter designed to bring Star Wars to the disabled and visually impaired. I know that many disabled people share my experience of finding solace in things like Star Wars and other nerd-worlds. This project is really cool and I can see it making a huge difference in people’s lives.
