We’ve all hoped for more Firefly goodness over the years. We’ve all thought that the idea of a shiny online game would be absolutely epic. We all refuse to let the Browncoat love die.
Fox has answered the call and is releasing a Firefly Online game. However, it’s going to be a “multi-user, social online role-playing game”. Yes, you read that correctly. It’s a gorram MUSORPG (or whatever) for Android and iOS.
So, so, so not shiny. While it’s entirely possible that the game would be executed well and the fandom would warm up to it, because all things are possible in the ‘Verse, it’s definitely getting a lukewarm reception right now.
If you haven’t already completely tossed everything out the window, hit the jump for more.
Click here for the official press release, ’cause I can’t be bothered to copy and paste this drivel where they tried a bit too hard to use Firefly lingo.
Here’s a snippet, though, ’cause I can’t help but be snarky:
At QMx, we know firsthand how great and powerful a franchise Firefly is and how mighty the Browncoats are,” said Andy Gore, CEO of QMXi and Quantum Mechanix Inc., which produces official collectibles and replicas for Firefly.
Basically, you know how much money is in a franchise that is still running strong with very loyal fans 10 years after the show was taken off the air. Kudos to you.
The only good thing I have to say about this trailer is that the music is gorgeous. Because, really, that’s all it was about.
It’ll be out next year. Perhaps we’ll have a different idea of it by then. What do you think, would you give it a chance?
