It’s the ultimate nerd pissing match of our time, who will use Quicksilver best: Bryan Singer in X-Men: Days of Future Past or Joss Whedon in
The Avengers 2, sorry, I mean Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now we know that Singer has said that the speedy mutant hero won’t have a huge role in X-Men as played by American Horror Story’s Evan Peters, but Whedon upped the game suggesting Quicksilver’s part in the next Avengers, along with the character’s twin sister The Scarlet Witch, would be far more significant.
Hours before the Marvel panel that would officially announce the name of the next Avengers film, MTV got the chance to corner Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the star of Kick-Ass, who has long been associated with taking on the Quicksilver role for Whedon. Naturally though, he confirmed nothing:
“Oh, that’s um, I don’t think I can talk about that, but it’s definitely an exciting prospect…,” he said.
The prospect is at least exciting enough that Taylor-Johnson is reading up on the character. “[QuickSilver] has a really interesting character and background,” he explained. “In fact, my wife has just been out and bought the first ever cover, a really really old vintage one where it’s the first time Quicksilver’s ever been on the front cover.”
Well, Taylor-Johnson is certainly talking the talk, but the question is will all these rumors about him playing Quicksilver turn out to be much ado about nothing. (See what I did there.)
The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be in theaters on May 1, 2015.
