Well, the tally came in on who shall be the 12th, and the new Doctor is (in case you’ve been living in a van down by the river and missed it) Peter Capaldi. But, along this long and hard road, many were routing for a female Doctor to take the stage. Not only has showrunner Steven Moffat expressed his interest in bringing one of the fairer sex to the role of Doctor, there was also plenty of talk from him about his new Doctor being “something different”. So why no lady Doc? Well, Moffat has something to say about that and you can check it out below.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Moffat had these words to share with us:
“It’s absolutely narratively possible [that the Doctor could be a woman] and when it’s the right decision, maybe we’ll do it.”
“It didn’t feel right to me, right now. I didn’t feel enough people wanted it.”
“Oddly enough most people who said they were dead against it – and I know I’ll get into trouble for saying this – were women. [They were] saying, ‘No, no, don’t make him a woman!'”
So the end result – no female Doctor.
Personally, I’d love to see a female Doctor emerge and have the same crazy adventures as the penised one does. Well, sort of… I’d rather Moffat introduced a female Time Lord into the mix via the regular Doctor Who series and then spin her out to her own series. Think of it, two Time Lords, two series, two chances to see the exploits of the Doctor Who universe. And half of it a female lead. This is a win-win for everyone.
Are you listening Moffat? Take the money and run, bitch! I will happily embrace a shorter wait between my Doctor Who fixes and, well, I’m guessing that at least 90% of Doctor Who fans are with me on this one. What say thee, oh Nerd Readers?
Thanks to blastr for loving us like only they can.
