Most of you out there know who Vin Diesel is, right? Yeah, that’s right, he’s the bald guy who puts out that endless series of bad movies about driving cars around. Oh, and sometimes he does other stuff as well. He’s been balls-deep in the sci-fi scene as of late, moving from more Riddick to a place within Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. And now, he’s continuing that trend by picking up yet another role in a big-budget sci-fi actioner.
The latest flick is called Soldiers of the Sun and Diesel’s role in it is that of a leader of a military unit on a planet Earth that has been taken over by alien baddies. The general synopsis is as follows:
Sun is set in a post-apocalyptic future and focuses on a squad of soldiers that searches for a fabled city of gold while on a tour of duty in Mexico liberating it from an alien race known as Orcs.
Er… orcs? It is official – science fiction has looped in upon fantasy and is creating a strange and potentially dangerous hybrid.
So the good news about this flick is that we at least get to see something new coming to the screen instead of yet another recycled and rebooted franchise of the past. The bad news is, the producers are already trying to compare the new film idea to the Fast and Furious franchise. Which means that Vin might be busy for the rest of his career turning out crappy sequels to a mediocre film.
Only time will reveal the truth…
Thanks to Blastr for the heads-up.
