If you are finished with the whole Batfleck thing, maybe it’s time we start thinking about some of the the other roles yet to be cast in the forthcoming Man of Steel sequel – Batman/Superman movie. Over the weekend the semi-reliable and oddly named Cosmic Book News (I’m guessing it started as a Carl Sagan fansite) reported that they had the exclusive inside track on who would be playing bad guy Lex Luthor in the 2015 film:
Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in what is said to be at least a six “appearance” deal (think of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury popping up in every Marvel movie in the run-up to Avengers) and may be as high as ten.
Look for the official announcement to follow the conclusion to the final season of Breaking Bad as WB wants to dovetail off the end of that.
This nameless source was pretty chatty, too. Citing Cranston as a ‘dream casting for the role’ and adding that onto of the possible ten (!) appearances as Superman’s nemesis for TV’s Walter White, newly cast Batman/internet pariah Ben Affleck is locked in for 13 shots under the cowl.
As for why fan favorite (ok, my favorite) for the next big screen Metropolis’ man of industry/villainy, Low Winter Sun star Mark Strong, apparently he wasn’t considered since they want him to reprise his role as Sinestro sometime in the future.
And Mr./Mrs./Ms. to cool to give a name wasn’t done yet. With Affleck now on board, Warner Bros. also has their sights set on adding Matt Damon to the DC cinematic universe as either Aquaman or the Martian Manhunter (because apparently WB execs think they are roomates or something.)
uh huh… they started to lose me there right around the 13 Batflecks and an AquaDamon.
After all the grains of salt that were needed to read these rumors… well, my blood pressure is a mess. Still, Cranston may not be half bad a choice for LL… does this mean we can we get his Breaking Bad cohort Jessie Pinkman/Aaron Paul to appear as his henchman/sidekick Otis?
Super villainy, bitch!
