The big Internet casting rumor last week was Bryan Cranston’s signing to play Lex Luthor opposite Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in director Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel sequel, Superman Versus Batman. Boston.com caught up with Cranston to confirm the Internet’s latest hot topic about his six Superman movie deal, Cranston went full Jon Snow and responded:

“I’ve heard that too,” he said. And what about those reports that he’s signed to play Luthor in as many as six “Man of Steel” movies? He laughed. “Six? This is all news to me. I think that maybe my name is bandied about because I’m known to be bald. ‘What bald guy can we get?’ The reality is they can take any actor and shave his head or put a bald cap on him.” Assuming he will, in fact, be Lex Luthor, we asked if Cranston would consider calling up Gene Hackman, who played Luthor in 1978’s “Superman,” for some advice. “I can just see how that phone call would go,” he said with a laugh. “‘Gene? Hi, this is Bryan Cranston.’ ‘Who? Bryan Cranston? What do you want? How did you get this number?’ ” Whether or not he faces off against Superman, one thing Cranston is definitely doing when he finishes “All the Way” is directing another episode of ABC’s “Modern Family.” Other than that, “I think I’ll relax the rest of the year. There’s some irons in the fire, things that people are talking about, but nothing is set.” – See more at: http://www.boston.com/names/2013/08/30/bryan-cranston-play-bald-bad-guy-lex-luthor/Pga1CuCpSGou2ACnQzoMIO/story.html#sthash.fHECKGVf.dpuf

Just like Game of Thrones Jon Snow, Bryan Cranston knows nothing . . . about being cast as Lex Luthor. Cranston has plenty of projects in the works, and is set to direct another episode of ABC’s “Modern Family. When asked about his plans after that:

I think I’ll relax the rest of the year. There’s some irons in the fire, things that people are talking about, but nothing is set.

The six movie deal is what should have tipped everyone off. Cranston is too busy to sign a deal that locks him into a contract that will tie him up for ten plus years and limit the projects behind the camera that he could take on.

Who might take on the role of Luthor? There are plenty of actors that would go bald for the role and exposure. Let us know who you think should take the part in the comments section below.

Production on the film is scheduled to start in February of 2014 so there is still plenty of time to find the right Luthor. As of now we know that Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will all be back to reprise their Man of Steel roles in the sequel.
