Mystique is one of the few characters who’s appeared in every one of FOX‘s X-Men movies, not including those solely-Wolverine flicks. Each time she’s been a little different, in both look, attitude, and in some cases, actress. In the next X-feature, X-Men: Days of Future Past, she will again be portrayed by First Class‘ Jennifer Lawrence but has evolved since her last appearance.
Speaking with Sci-Fi Now, Lawrence explains,
I’m naked, but when I do get to wear clothes, I love the ’70s outfits. Some of the Mystique look is a little different, but we’re still using the same paint. But she’s different in this film, too. She was struggling – like a lot of normal humans – with the way she looked, and she was covered up a lot in the first movie, but this time she is Mutant and proud.
Clearly, in DOFP we’ll be getting a Mystique who is edging closer and closer to how Rebecca Romijn played her in the first three X-Men movies. This time Lawrence didn’t have to put up with being painted head to toe, either, instead they opted for a body suit which does make her skin appear a darker shade of blue than it did in First Class. Which again, will make her look more like the original Mystique. And judging from some of those shots director Bryan Singer shared on Twitter, she’s indeed getting to take part in more of the action,
Excited to see the next step in Mystique’s evolution from shy shape-shifter to resident, Brotherhood ass-kicker? X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to release May 23, 2014.
