Next on director Guillermo del Toro’s list of things to do is the upcoming movie, Crimson Peak. This haunted house-based flick originally saw Benedict Cumberbatch as the lead, but he has since dropped out. Now, it looks like del Toro has picked up a replacement. And the winner is… Tom Hiddleston,
Hiddleston’s career has been kicking ass and taking names ever since his fan-praised performance as Loki. And no doubt there are plenty of people that wouldn’t mind seeing the actor front-and-center once more, particularly with del Toro on the other side of the camera.
In case you don’t know anything about what to expect from Crimson Peak, here’s what del Toro had to say about it:
Crimson Peak is a much, much, much smaller movie, completely character-driven. It’s an adult movie, an R-rated movie, pretty adult. Shockingly different from anything I’ve done in the English language. Normally, when I go to do a movie in America for the spectacle and younger audience, for Blade or whatever. This movie’s tone is scary and it’s the first time I get to do a movie more akin to what I do in the Spanish movies… The thing I do in those movies is recontextualization, take a movie and then move it into a completely different place. Like a Gothic and then move it into the Spanish Civil War [The Devil’s Backbone]. This is a Gothic romance, haunted house, in the north of England.
Well, I for one am happy to see del Toro getting back to his roots, away from the big FX and big budget films he’s been doing lately. This will be a chance to see a movie similar to the ones that made me love his work so much.
What do the Nerd Readers think? Hiddleston = good for horror flick? Excited to see del Toro going back to character-centric movies?
Thanks to /film for the heads-up.
