Chewbacca is one of the most well-known and beloved characters in the Star Wars saga, a true stand out in every sense of the word considering Peter Mayhew‘s 7 foot 3 inch frame. Mayhew’s height comes from a medical condition called Gigantism, but as the actor’s gotten on in years he’s been having difficulty moving around without the aid of a cane or wheelchair, as well as difficulty in standing up straight. But a team of doctors think they might be able to help Mayhew, and now, there’s a Kickstarter for that.
Uncle Peter needs help! Please retweet my kickstarter to your friends & ask them to do the same. You will be my hero! http://t.co/FEYGlN8K6X

The Kickstarter project is for a documentary film to chronicle Mayhew’s journey from his final few convention appearances before the surgeries, to his progress through the four surgeries necessary to fix his condition, to, hopefully, the moment Mayhew can stand upright on his own again.
I think the whole nerd community wishes Mayhew all the best with his operation. If you’ve seen him at a con in the last couple of years you would have noticed Mayhew had trouble getting around, even with his signature lightsaber came. So best of luck, Peter. May the force be with you.
