With the premiere of The Walking Dead’s hotly anticipated Season 4 only about a month away I’ll admit I’m surprised we’re hearing this casting news so late in the game. The Hollywood Reporter ran the news today that Christian Serratos – whom they plug as Twlight‘s Christian Serratos, though we won’t hold that against her – has been cast in the recurring role of Rosita Espinosa, a character comic book fans should already be familiar with. She’s appearing this season, probably later on given the late notice and likely for only a handful of episodes, but she has the option to be promoted to a series regular come Season 5.
Comic book fans will know not only Rosita, but her traveling companions Abraham and Eugene, though there’s been no news of those roles having been cast of even considered for the show. Yet somehow, I’m sure we won’t meet Rosita alone, unless the show is going to drastically veer away from the comic which is–actually very likely, so maybe that is the case.
I’ll say I’m quite happy to see another woman being added to the cast, considering who we lost last season. Plus, diversity! Got to love that. And if I recall, Rosita’s pretty tough, too, which is good ’cause they’ll need all the help they can get if they plan to either hold the prison or abandon it.
What are you Bastards thinking about this latest casting development? And did you hear the news of AMC’s Walking Dead spinoff series?
