Did someone ask for more zombies? No? Well, A&E is giving them to you anyway, in the form of their new show, The Returned. All throughout movies, games, televisions shows (and just about any other form of media, really), we find ourselves inundated with the undead, but this series looks to be a bit different than your run-of-the-mill zombie drama.
In The Returned, the undead don’t come back mindless monsters, hungry for flesh. No, instead, the show takes a different approach; they are just like your average townspeople… except that they’re now back to resume their lives after suffering from a slight case of deadness. While the show will obviously have its own creepiness and horror, it doesn’t look like another zombie dramapocalypse, thankfully. The story is being adapted from the French series, Les Revenants, which was based on the 2004 film of the same name.
I don’t know how many more undead things I can take. The Walking Dead, Resident Evil, World War Z, that corny zombie love story they did a year or so ago. As someone who used to love a good zombie story, I’m just getting sick of seeing it. But, there is one thing that gives me hope; while the zombie genre is getting a bit too saturated, A&E‘s wonderful re-imagining of Norman and Norma Bates with Bates Motel has convinced me to give the network’s upcoming show a try. If this show can replicate that charm, then I think it’s safe to say that The Returned could be a true stand out in this zombie mob that we find ourselves in.
