J.K. Rowling is apparently working on the screenplay for a new movie in the Harry Potter universe: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, according to Warner Bros. (and totally unbeknownst to me….BAD NERD!). The film will take place before the HP series as we know it, so it’s unlikely any of the younger characters will be making appearances–but this hasn’t stopped folks from plying Daniel Radcliffe with questions regarding his involvement with the prequel.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe admitted he doesn’t know much more about the project than we do–and he himself first heard about it from a reporter.
Here’s what else he had to say:
I don’t think I’m going to be coming back. We can’t be doing these characters when we’re 40, so there has to be a line drawn. I never know what Jo [Rowling] is going to write, but at the moment I’m in the same position that everyone else is in — waiting to hear what information is coming out because I don’t know anything about these new films.
To summarize, he added:
If time travel rears its head again, I’ll be intrigued to see what she does.
In other words: If Rowling REALLY wants him in the film, there is an in-canon mechanic that would allow Harry to pop in for a cameo, maybe.
