The entire supernatural genre is exploding right now, and The CW is clearly doing its best to take full advantage of the craze. With shows like Supernatural, Reign, The Originals, Vampire Diaries, and a few others that I’m sure I’m either forgetting or don’t know about, CW viewers might be happy to hear that a western themed show could be joining The CW’s line-up.
At first, I was super excited about this news, and I thought this would be the Supernatural spin-off, which would have followed Samuel Colt as a hunter akin to the Winchesters, that was talked about a few years back. Though, with it being described as a “supernatural Western about a ruthless family cursed by vengeful ghosts,” I’m not sure this is the same idea developed in a new direction, or something different entirely.
It looks like the whole “hunter” aspect of the show has been dropped, but they’ll probably pick that up with the other (the one that is actually going to happen) Supernatural spin-off. On the plus side, it’s being developed by David Wilcox, the creator of the severely underrated 666 Park Avenue, which makes me hopeful for a dark, twisted, gritty paranormal drama. Yes, I need another one of those.
