Disney and Lionsgate Working on ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Hunger Games’ Theme Park Attractions (Respectively)
Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has had more to say about Star Wars recently than pretty much since the acquisition of Lucasfilm by his company (can you believe it’s been over a year?). First the official release date for Episode VII was finally revealed…no title yet, but at least we know WHEN we can see the most anticipated film since Edison made “Fred Ott’s Sneeze”.
But there’s more! Iger also spoke on Bloomberg.tv about expanding the SW attractions to Disney theme parks across the globe…Oh, before I get to the jump, I guess I should mention that Lionsgate is also apparently in talks to produce theme park attractions based on The Hunger Games film franchise.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer reportedly stated during a conference call this morning (via Deadline) that his studio has been:
…approached in two territories about potential theme park opportunities…we’re pursuing them.
And that’s pretty much all anyone knows about the idea. I, personally, have yet to experience The Hunger Games phenomenon–in novel or cinematic form, so I’ll leave it to fans of the series to decide if this concept has merit.
Returning to Disney–Iger says we should expect more Star Wars attractions at the company’s American parks, and possibly at Disney locations in Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.
