Now that the dust has begun to settle on the internet shattering announcement that Disney/Marvel Studios will be teaming up with Netflix to bring an astonishing four Marvel properties to the small-on-demand screen it looks like the TV shows are starting to take shape. Well one at least.
TheWrap is reporting that Drew Goddard (who’s IMDB page includes Cabin in the Woods, World War Z, and Cloverfield) will be the man behind the man without fear, Daredevil.
Goddard has a history with Marvel’s The Avengers helmer Joss Whedon, having worked with Whedon on the aforementioned Cabin in the Woods, as well on the small screen with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.
While Marvel and Netflix are both declining to comment on the news, it is worth noting that Goddard is a self-described fan of the character. Earlier this year Goddard told Collider that he is ‘a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his wall while growing up,‘ and ‘even when I was 18, I still had the blood red door with the, “I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear.” That was what I loved and so it’s the sort of thing that if we can find the right project, I would love to do it.‘
With the Disney/Marvel/Neflix epic Defenders fourway (that will also include Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones) still a year away, I am not going to lie, knowing that Goddard will be at the helm of Matt Murdock’s adventures in Hell’s Kitchen makes me feel a bit more at ease. This isn’t just because he once painted a door deep red and scrawled a Frank Miller quote on it. I mean that helps a whole lot but I am not basing my WHOLE opinion on that.
