Imagine my surprise when I realized that there were some television shows in the works that weren’t based around either Marvel OR DC! Yessir, the folks in television land are still making other products. This time around, SyFy is looking to put the old classic, Beowulf on the small screen and CW wants to revive a more modern classic, Tales from the Darkside. Read on for all the juicy details.
In case you don’t know the story of Beowulf, it’s basically about a Scandinavian hero that runs around having all sorts of cool adventures and killing crazy monsters. Really, if you haven’t seen at least one rendition of Beowulf, you’ve been hiding in a hole somewhere, cause they’ve made tons of adaptations over the years. The most recent was that creepy-looking motion-capture flick in 2007, though I’d say my favorite has to be The 13th Warrior (albeit it spins the tale a bit). The new version is being written by Matt Greenberg (Reign of Fire, 1408), whose past works suggest that this may be right up his alley.
The CW’s reboot of Tales from the Darkside is the other big one in production and could be a big hit or a big miss, depending on how they treat the property. Tales from the Darkside was one of my favorite shows as a kid, so if they mess this one up I will be seriously pissed. So far Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci are attached to produce, however, which bodes well. Joe Hill (Horns, Locke & Key) is on staff to write as well, so we may see something good come of this.
Tune in tomorrow when we have another pile of news for you – probably most of it about super hero TV shows and movies (go figure).
Thanks to ComingSoon for the heads-up.
