As you may or may not have realized, there’s been a lot of secrecy around the development of Star Wars Episode VII. In fact, so little’s been revealed that those of us who post nerdy news on the internet have more or less had make a big deal out of whatever random, could-be-plausible rumor, no matter how truthful of consequential those morsels happen to be. Hopefully, I didn’t just undermine the whole point of us, but let’s be honest, these are the bits we live for. So hold on to your butts, because here’s a totally legit sneak peak behind the scenes of Star Wars Episode VII. A surprise appearance by one of the most well-known figure associated with the entire franchise.

Admit it, a huge grin just appeared on your face.
That picture appeared on Twitter this afternoon via the Bad Robot page on the social media site, and for the normally super-secret production of the J.J. Abrams factory, this is a huge reveal akin to someone spoiling the ending of The Empire Strikes Back in 1979. Come to think of it, I think the production team of Star Trek Into Darkness was still denying the real identity of Benedict Cumberbatch’s character a week after that film’s release. Abrams is so secretive that he doesn’t even tell himself how his own movies end. But I digress.
There’s been a lot of talk about Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher reprising their roles, but for as long as there’s been talk about three sets of trilogies, there’s always been the rumor that the only characters all nine movies would have in common is C-3P0 and R2-D2. I guess this confirms that at least one half of that dynamic duo will be in the picture, and I’m not sure you can have R2-D2 without C-3P0. They would be war heroes after all, right? Welcome back R2! Happy to see you again.
By the way, in the above picture R2 is flanked by Abrams on the left and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy on the right.
More news as it develops, obviously.
