Many film makers these days are shooting teasers or concept trailers to entice studio executives to get on-board and give new projects that much desired green light. While some never see the light of day, many make their way onto the Internet in hopes of generating enough buzz to re-ignite some financial backing momentum. This time around Zorro Reborn by director Ricardo de Montreuil is getting that Internet second chance at life.
Superheroes are all the rage these days, why not try a reboot and re-imagining of a classic Hollywood hero like Zorro? Throw in some Apocalyptic-Sci-Fi backgrounds and you’ve got this Fallout fan-boy’s attention.
The whole thing started back in 2012, shot on location in South America on a reported $100,000 budget, this trailer starred Jason Day as Zorro, although Gael García Bernal is reported as the intended star of the film.
The premise has a meteorite crashing into Earth in the future that destroys much of California and Mexico leaving it as a desert. After the dust settles, that same meteorite is discovered to be a supreme source of energy, which a new hostile corporation assumes. People begin flocking to New San Diego for work only to find out they’re now being oppressed. It is then that Alejandro Fox, a descendant of Don Diego de la Vega, the original Zorro, emerges as the hero that will answer the people’s cry for justice.
What did you think? There’s a movie in there, and with the current superhero craze in Hollywood, I’m surprised no one has picked this up. The concept would easily fit in the weekly television episode format as well.
What I’d love to see is this concept as a DLC for the next Fallout video game. It would fit right in.
