BBC Annouces ‘Sherlock’ Return on New Year’s Day

If you were dreaming of some quality Brit TV this Christmas, it seems that BBC One has answered your wish. The network has announced that the new season of Sherlock will premiere on New Year’s Day with the first episode of the three-episode third season. That’s the good news. The bad news, at least it’s bad for American viewers, is that you’ll have to wait till January 19th.

RadioTimes spread the news earlier today that British fans will be able to work off their hangover by puzzling over a new mystery with Holmes and Watson. “The Empty Hearse” will kick the season off on January 1st, while the second episode, “The Sign of Three,” will air on Sunday January 5th. The third and final episode of season three, “His Last Vow,” will air the following Sunday, on January 12th. All three episodes will clock in at the 90 minute mark.

Adding a touch of gallows humor to the announcement, BBC One sent this piece of promotion out.

Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes and his dedicated partner John Watson. But you knew that already, didn’t you Bastards? Sound off with your comments and expectations about the new season below.
