Although no official announcement has been made, the internet speculation seems to be positing the idea that Sony is getting their ducks in a row to make an adaptation of the hit Playstation 3 game, The Last of Us. According to a website that tracks these things, the entertainment conglomerate has snatched up a couple of domain names that it would need if Sony is indeed planning on a movie based on the post-apocalyptic game of the same name.
Domain Tools says that the internet addresses TheLastOfUs-Movie.com and TheLastOfUsMovie.net were both registered by Sony’s brand protection agent MarkMonitor on November 25. It could be Sony looking to guard its options, or it could be a provisional first step in the company getting its eggs together to make a movie version of The Last of Us. A movie based on the game would be a smart idea since it was one of the best-selling video games to ever be released on the Playstation 3.
The plot of The Last of Us follows a lone wolf named Joel as he escorts a 14-year-old orphan named Ellie across post-apocalyptic America. Ellie’s blood may contain the cure to a fungal plague that’s turned much of the world’s population on zombie-like monsters, and a resistance group called the Firflies think they can save the world with her, but Joel has to guide Ellie across a brutal landscape of monsters, mercenaries and cannibals in order to get her there.
Obviously, a The Last of Us movie would a pretty big deal. We’ll keep you posted with any updates.
