Deadline just broke the news that relative newcomer Gal Gadot has landed the role of Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman. And not only that, we now know for sure Wonder Woman is indeed in the flick (obviously), as had been rumored for some time.

Along with news, Deadline has this quick quote from Snyder,

Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.

Gadot is best known for her role in the Fast & Furious films, but she’s also appeared in Knight and Day and Date Night. The former Miss Israel will be, as Snyder points out, the “first feature film incarnation” of Wonder Woman. That’s a pretty tall order for the model turned actress, one I have no idea if she’s up for or not.

I haven’t seen any of the Fast & Furious films, at least not any Gadot’s appeared in, and while I’ve seen Date Night I don’t remember her character. Basically, when they say newcomer, they sure mean newcomer because I’ve got nothing on which to judge her as a choice for Wonder Woman. Except her looks, and in that case, I guess she fits the part. She’s got naturally dark hair, she’s Israeli which gives her the needed ethnic (read: not American) look, and if she can tone up for those Fast & Furious movies I assume she’ll bring the musculature and physicality we expect of an Amazon.

I’m still a little uneasy about Wonder Woman being a supporting player in Batman vs. Superman, but that’s a discussion for another day.

What do you think of this casting news? Gadot was on a rumored list of potential actresses, was she your pick?
