Now that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is a certified hit, all eyes turn to the trilogy-turned-quadrilogy’s final two chapters, Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, and Lily Rabe have already signed up joined the fun, along with returning cast members like Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, but now one more name has been added to the call sheet, and it’s everybody’s favorite prison psycho Theodore “T-Bag” Bagwell, or Robert Knepper as the actor likes to be called. And in an interesting detail, it seems he’s playing a character that doesn’t appear in the book.
According to Variety, Knepper will be playing the part of Antonius, an adviser to Panem’s vicious President Snow (Donald Sutherland), who, in Mockingjay, faces an insurrection by the other districts as they seek to overturn the tyranny of the Capital with Katniss (Lawrence) in the role of the rebels’ main propaganda tool and mascot. Racking your brain trying to remember an Antonius from the book? Don’t bother, he’s an invention for the film, which is not that surprising considering that Mockingjay is the same length as the other two books, but is being split into two movies.
As for Knepper, you’ll probably know him from a number of your favorite series like Prison Break, Carnivàle, Heroes, Stargate Universe and most recently Cult. He’s also appeared in the films Hitman, Good Night and Good Luck and R.I.P.D. Knepper will next appear in the CW series Arrow as the Clock King.
What do you Bastards think of this casting news: love anything Knepper related? Ticked off at the departure from the source material? Indifferent because you’re really not a Hunger Games fan? Sound off below.
