Imagine you’re a fresh recruit heading off to battle, only to immediately die, wake up, and repeat it all over again. That’s the basic premise behind Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Shedding a bit more light on this intriguing premise is the trailer which just released today.
The design of this film doesn’t look all that original, but I do like a good mech suit. Blunt’s character, who’s obviously been through this once or twice, will likely be the more interesting of the two as Cruise is playing his typical, underrated hero schtick. I’m excited to see her as a grizzled war veteran training Cruise’s pansy ass. What they’re fighting isn’t exactly clear, but it may not really matter in the end. All in all, a promising sci-fi action flick, yes?
Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
Edge of Tomorrow releases on June 6, 2014. Has this trailer got you amped for the movie?
