The mid-season finale of Arrow was craaaazzzyyy good. It was easily their best episode yet, and please, by all means go enjoy my recap/review. Fans won’t have to wait too long as the series returns January 15th, and to whet our appetites even more, showrunners Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg discuss last night’s surprises and tease where they’ll take The Arrow next.

First off. SPOILERS, duh.

Talking with Entertainment Weekly, Berlanti touched on how big a role Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), the recently transformed speedster, will play on Arrow, “In the back half of the year, you hear about what happened to him in the way that you’re hearing now about S.T.A.R. Labs on the periphery.” But neither Berlanti or Kreisberg would confirm whether we’d still see Barry in episode 20 of Arrow, the episode that was originally going to serve as a backdoor pilot for the Flash series.

Kreisberg shared some enlightening info on Roy Harper’s (Colton Haynes) new found super powers,

One of the things you’ll find as we go along is that it’s a deep-seeded anger inside of you that lets you survive the Mirakuru transformation, which is something Slade had, which is why he lived, and it’s why Roy lived. One of the fun things that will be happening the back half of the year is his relationship with the Arrow and how that changes and how the Arrow basically makes it his mission to not let Roy go down the Slade path and that’s going to take some twists and turns that will hopefully surprise people and they’ll enjoy.

Speaking of Slade (Manu Bennet), since he’s in town, Berlanti teases,

I would say [he’s] very much the drive of the second half of the season. Last year, we had Malcolm as sort of a single bad guy and twisting and turning that. This year, we’ve got a two-pronged approach to the bad guy.

Adding that Oliver’s knows thisbad guy it’ll, “change the rhythms of the back half of the year from what we would have done last year.

There’s a lot to look forward to in this upcoming second half of Arrow Season 2. And just to entice you even more, here’s the promo for Arrow‘s return episode, “Blast Radius,”

Arrow returns to the CW on Wednesday, January 15th at 8pm.
