Plenty of faces, new and old, have been confirmed for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. And while we know that Robert Downey, Jr. will be back, it’s still up in the air whether he’ll be donning his Iron Man suit. He did, after all, seem to swear off the whole super hero lifestyle at the end of Iron Man 3. But who could ever replace our beloved metal-plated Avenger? Perhaps with the official casting of Don Cheadle we have our answer.
Playing the role of Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, Cheadle has had the pleasure of wearing the War Machine/Iron Patriot armor in the Iron Man franchise. It would be no stretch to bring him in to help out the Avengers while Tony is grounded. Fans would get all the Iron Man goodness in a different package.
Of course, there are a few other heroes being added to the line-up, including Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olson), so it could become quite crowded on the set. Add to that the rumors of expanded roles for Hawkeye and The Hulk and we could likely be seeing Cheadle with more of a background presence. Or, as some other outlets have been suggesting, as Whedon-fodder, only there to die horribly so that the rest of the Avengers have a bit more motivation.
What say you, Nerd Readers? Do you want to see more War Machine?
Thanks to /film for the heads-up.
