With huge piles of money still to be made, was it ever in doubt that we’d inevitably see a third installment in the G.I. Joe franchise? Yup, they’re doing it and, much the same as they did between the first and the second flick, we’ll likely be seeing a lot of new cast members joining up to play different characters for G.I Joe 3. And while that list of characters has yet to be revealed, we may see the return of one of the show’s most important faces. Read on for more informational goodness.
First and foremost, one face will definitely be returning, albeit we won’t actually get to see it – Jon Chu. The Retaliation director is back for more and speaking a bit about what we might expect. When chatting with MTV about the potential for Channing Tatum to return as the iconic G.I. Joe leader, Duke, he had this to say:
“You never know, Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who’s coming back and who’s not.”
As for the rest of the characters, it’s still a bit up in the air. Chu has said little more than that audiences will see a mix of old characters and new. If anyone out there used to collect G.I. Joe figures as a kid like I did, you know they’ve got a shit-load to choose from.
So until we hear more, cross your fingers that you might see some of your favorites show up for G.I. Joe 3.
