Here we go again, another day, another Batman Vs Superman casting rumor. This one is interesting though. Sources are saying that Warner Bros has approached Academy Award-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix to play the part of the main villain in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel. The notoriously unpredictable actor is the latest in a long line of names mentioned as potential unknown bad guy in the movie, but he is apparently the frontrunner. So what are they waiting for?
Well, according to Variety, the studio is waiting for Phoenix’s answer. Offers have been made, but the three-time Oscar-nominated actor is mulling his options before officially signing on to play, what is believed to be, the role of Lex Luthor. One of the hold-ups, says /Film, is that Phoenix is also mulling the starring role in Gus Van Sant’s Sea of Trees, so he’s probably, understandably, torn. Still, Phoenix will have to decide soon because shooting on Batman Vs Superman is expected to begin sometime early in 2014.
But hey, what about those other guys that were rumored to be playing Lex Luthor? There was Bryan Cranston and Terry O’Quinn, and last week Jason Mamoa was thrown into the mix. Actually, it seems that Mamoa is still in the mix, perhaps playing a secondary villain or confederate of Lex Luthor’s. Obviously, all options are soft until we get the final confirmation from the studio, and we’ll have that news for you as soon as it breaks.
But in the meantime, sound off with your comments below. Yay or Nay on Joaquin Phoenix as Lex Luthor, Bastards?
