Buying a badge for San Diego Comic Con, whether it be for the whole weekend or a single day, is never easy. The demand is absolutely insane and often sells out before registration even opens fully. It’s a headache, basically, and it’s about to become an even bigger one.

In a radical change to their badge sales, SDCC has decided to no longer offer 4-Day badges but rather only sell badges for individual days. Here’s how the convention’s official site spins it,

New for 2014! Only single day badges will be sold. The Preview Night badge option may only be purchased if you buy a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday badge. Preview Night is not a stand alone badge option. As in 2013, anyone who purchases a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday badge will have the option of consolidating them into one 4-Day badge onsite.

As you can see, technically you can still get a badge for the entire weekend, but only after you buy each day individually. As for Preview Night, well, you only get the chance to buy that once you buy the other four days. Bu why? Are they hoping to sell more individual badges? Perhaps lessen the crowds on the most popular days? Allow more the opportunity to have a chance at attending SDCC, even if for only a day? It’s unclear.

In addition to the ‘no 4-Day badge’ policy the total cost of attending is also going up around $10, but that isn’t too surprising. Comic Con is more popular now than ever, why not capitalize? Other restrictions remain the same: only those who attended last year’s convention, have a valid Member I.D., and retained their badge from last year are eligible fro pre-registration. Still no date for when pre-reg begins, or when registration open for anyone else hoping to attend. For all the deets on what you need to do in order to go to SDCC 2014, visit the website.

Soo… only single day badges, eh? What are you Bastards thinking? Dumb move or is SDCC on to something?
