The new trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire begins with a line about “the ecstasy of steel, flesh, sweat and muscle, rage… war.” One might think the filmmakers are trying to sexualize war, but it’s Eva Green saying the line, and she could sexualize the instructions for making chicken soup, so there you go. This is the new trailer for the 300 sequel, and it begs the question: When did Zack Snyder become a brand? But if you’re in the mood for more slow-mo action, and CGI sets, and pontificating about dying with honor in battle, good news! Watch the trailer below.
Yawn. It feels like I’ve already saw this movie, and it was called 300. Noam Murro (Smart People) takes over for Snyder behind the camera, but it seems as though Murro was left Snyder’s instruction book on how to make a highly-stylized historical action movie. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I was a big fan of 300, but do we really need to “continue the story?” Even Frank Miller didn’t think so. I guess we’ll find out.
Here’s the synopsis:
Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. “300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemisia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy.
300: Rise of an Empire comes out March 7.
