‘Flash’ Casting – Jesse L. Martin Joins Up

Though the exact air date for the upcoming CW/DC Flash series is yet to be announced, what we are getting across the vast reaches of the Internetz is a bit of news about the casting. Which makes sense, I suppose, considering they haven’t even started shooting yet. Anyone who’s a fan of Arrow already knows that Grant Gustin is playing the titular character, and now we get the name of the actor that will be playing one of his allies – Jesse L. Martin.

Perhaps best know for his work on Law and Order, Martin has a long history of playing a cop and it will be no different for The Flash. He’ll be taking on the role of Detective West, a “father figure” to Barry.

Here is the official casting call that describes the character in a little more detail:

DETECTIVE WEST – Late 40s to Early 50s – African American -Detective West is an honest, blue-collar cop who’s seen it all. A soulful, funny caring father to Iris, and a surrogate father to Barry, West came up through the foster system himself. He took in Barry after his mother’s murder and his father’s imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports Barry’s efforts to prove his father’s innocence.

Well folks, that’s two down and plenty more to go. Personally, I can’t wait to start hearing about some of the villains that will be showing up and, of course, what faces they’ll be getting to play them.

Thanks to Bleeding Cool for the heads-up.
