Considering how fast and free the rumors have been flying already this year, you read a headline like that and think, “Surely, you jest?” But this is no rumorX-Men producer, Lauren Shuler Donner has revealed to Empire: Channing Tatum in “on board” to star in a Gambit movie. Yeah, that guy from Magic Mike, 21 and 22 Jump Street, and those sub par G.I. Joe movies. As the Ragin’ Cajun, Gambit.

All Shuler Donner needs is the studio to sign off,

I’m dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn’t have to be a great big movie. It’s a thief in New Orleans, it’s a whole different story. He’s on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He’s such a sweetheart.

This isn’t as outta left field as it initially sounds. Tatum has already said he’d love nothing more than to play Gambit.

But I wouldn’t begin photoshopping Tatum into that trench coat just yet. Shuler Donner and Tatum being in cahoots over a Gambit movie does not a Gambit movie make. Since last appearing in Wolverine: Origins played by Taylor Kitsch, there hasn’t been a peep about Gambit. Does director Bryan Singer even have him in mind for the future of the X-Men franchise? Who knows! Unless there’s a tease in DOFP or even Apocalypse, I wouldn’t hold my breath over seeing Gambit make a reappearance anytime soon.

As for Tatum as Gambit? I’m not really on board with this. I’ve always found Tatum bland and boring, so I don’t see him having that exuberant energy needed for Gambit. Then again, you don’t get more popular among the ladies than Tatum, soo… I can see the potential there.

What do you think of Tatum as Gambit? Is he Cajun-y enough for you? Do you even expect to see Gambit pop up again? Again, I doubt it. Especially when you consider that Rogue’s role has been either deleted entirely or severely cut from DOFP.
