When a recent photo of Leonard Nimoy (82) making his way through JFK in a wheelchair wearing an oxygen tube surfaced on the Internet, many fans were rightfully concerned about their favorite pointy eared Vulcan. Nimoy took to the Twitter-verse to let fans know that while he has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), he was currently doing well.

Here’s the picture in question:

COPD is defined as: an umbrella term used to describe progressive lung diseases including emphysema, chronic bronchitis, refractory (non-reversible) asthma, and some forms of bronchiectasis.” It is characterized by increasing breathlessness.

Nimoy stopped attending conventions back in 2011, although he remains a presence in SciFi fandom through twitter and other social medias. He recently finished taping some commentary for Star Trek Fest airing on EPIX February 16th.

We offer him our prayers and wish him the best. If anyone deserves to Live Long and Prosper, Leonard Nimoy does.
