Agents of SHIELD hasn’t been the breakout hit everyone expected. Failing to continue drawing large audiences after its premiere, the series now turns to guest appearances to bolster its sagging popularity. Bill Paxton will soon guest star in a four episode arc and there’s even a requisite Stan Lee cameo, but it’ll take a goddess to truly make an impact on Agents of SHIELD.
Seen her with Coulson’s favorite lady in red, Lola, the warrior Sif (Jaime Alexander) looks as if she’s stepped right off the set of Thor: The Dark World (review here). It’s the same costume and we already know Alexander doesn’t have to be asked twice to dress up as Lady Sif.
Alexander will make her television debut as the Asgardian on the March 11th episode of Agents of SHIELD. She’ll be called to the realm of Midgard to deal with the Enchantress’ younger sister, Lorelei (Elena Satine).
Executive produce Jed Whedon:
We always have our radar up for ways to tie our series into the Marvel films and bringing in an Asgardian really cements that connection. Lady Sif comes here on a hunting mission — sent by Odin — to find her arch-enemy Lorelei and bring her back to Asgard. It throws our agents for a loop when they find themselves in a fight right alongside this powerful woman from Thor’s world.
Fellow exec producer Maurissa Tancharoen adds:
Jaimie walked onto the set in full Lady Sif regalia just as she looks in the movies — from the huge, mile-high boots to the metal armor — and she towered over everyone. It was so striking and impressive, all we could do was stare. It was very cool!
I for one have not been keeping up with Agents of SHIELD, but seeing as Sif, and especially Alexander’s portrayal, is not only a highlight of Thor: The Dark World but of the Marvel films in general you better believe I’ll be tuning in on March 11th.
How about you? Is Sif enough to bring you back?
