Apparently, early February is Gotham casting season. Over the weekend Ben McKenzie was revealed as Jim Gordon, only yesterday four more roles (including Penguin and Alfred) were cast, and today Warner Bros. made it official – Donal Logue IS Harvey Bullock.
First rising to prominence on the sitcom, Grounded for Life, Logue has since seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to far more serious roles in Sons of Anarchy and Copper. When it was initially rumored he was in consideration for the lead role of Gordon, Logue denied it to us personally on Twitter:
@nerdbastards not true! I wish-would be awesome (but who could top Gary Oldman?) From what I heard, Gotham catches Gordon in his late 20’s
— donal logue (@donallogue) January 15, 2014
But the internet wouldn’t stop insisting Logue was a part of Gotham, and guess what? The internet was right (for once). The internet even correctly guessed his role! What a powerful thing, this internet.
In Gotham, Bullock is described as:
Jim Gordon’s partner and mentor, the rough-around-the-edges Detective Harvey Bullock plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results … and he does it with old-school, forceful panache.
Which sounds pretty much like the Bullock we’re all familiar with, except for that mentor part. In Batman: The Animated Series (where, honestly, most of my Batman knowledge comes from) Bullock and Gordon were often at odds, but as Gordon was the Commissioner, well, he usually got his way. In Gotham I’m sure they’ll continue to butt heads, but instead with Gordon being the younger, less experienced of the two.
All right, what do you think of this casting news? Gotham appears to be shaping up as a pretty solid show, doesn’t it?
