Well folks, we’ve got good news for people that just never figured out how that darned shoelace tying trick works. It looks like Nike, taking a cue from one of their mock products from Back to the Future II, has created functional power laces. Better yet, we shall be seeing them hit the market sometime in 2015 (the same time that they appeared in the movie, coincidentally).
When shoe designer Tinker Hatfield was asked earlier this week about the possibility of power laces making the shift from movie reality to regular reality, he had this to say:
“Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!”
Nike already made physical versions of the shoes that Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future II back in 2011. Though those were made to be sold for charity, only 1500 pairs were created and there was no high-tech lacing system involved. Whether they plan on taking their new power laces and adding them to the original design to completely mimic McFly’s shoes remains to be seen. But rest assured – you shall, if you choose, never have to tie another shoelace again.
Thanks to SoleCollector for the heads-up.
