It’s the responsibility of any good director to not only make a quality product but – and in terms of fan expectation – to give viewers something they never new they wanted. Rising above predisposed judgements is the goal of any creative. Now, having said that, I think fans of the Fantastic Four franchise will be feeling a little worse for wear upon hearing the quartet of actors that have just been announced for the upcoming reboot. Read on through to see who’ll be playing Marvel Comics first super hero family.
The The Wrap reports that previously rumored Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan have been cast as Reid Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Johnny Storm/Human Torch respectively. Joining them are Kate Mara as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman and Jamie Bell is expected to play Ben Grimm/The Thing. The film is be based on the comic The Ultimate Fantastic Four, and it will focus on a younger version of the superhero characters (obviously).
My first reaction was “wow, did they pull these names out of a hat?”. Having a young Reed Richards just destroys that character for me. Ironically, the only one I’m OK with is Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, because I know he can act. On the other hand, as a fan of the comic for many, many years now, it is a major change that will take me out of the film as I am watching it, so I have to question the decision to make the change in the first place.
So, readers, this is your time to tell us what you think. Are you jumping on the bash wagon, reserving judgement, or are you actually in favor of these casting choices?
