If there’s merely one curious element about the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, it’s how the character of Rocket Raccoon will translate from the comic page to the big screen. If it all goes according to plan, then the folks are going to have a new hero to love, and buy action figures of, just like how everyone loved Iron Man after Robert Downey, Jr. starred in the film of the same name. Of course Marvel, always being smart about corporate synergy, has shrewdly decided to give Rocket his own solo series starting, coincidentally, a month before Guardians‘ big screen bow.
Marvel Comics gave the deets on the new series to MTV, which will be written and drawn by Skottie Young, who’s previously drawn issues of New X-Men, New Warriors, and the Marvel adaptations of the Oz books. Here’s what they say we can expect from the all new Rocket series:
As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of galactic battles. He’s been a hero to the weak, a champion of good, a protector of the innocent, a heartthrob to the many intergalactic female species and now–a raccoon on the run?! ( I’m sorry, I’m sorry, a “formidable-and-expert-Guardian” on the run. Rocket is NOT a raccoon, okay?) Rocket’s high-flying life of adventure and heroism may soon be a thing of the past when he becomes a wanted man–and the authorities are not the only one on his TAIL! (We’ll definitely be overusing that pun!) Superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game as writer and artist on the series we’ve been waiting decades for.
