With the premiere of Game of Thrones season 4 just a few weeks away, the Internet is awash with all-things-hypable in order to get people excited (as if we needed any help). One such bit of marketing involves interviewing anyone and everyone. And this time around it’s Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, AKA the incestual twin we love to hate, Jaime Lannister. So what did Coster-Waldau have to say about GoT season 4 and his role as Jaime? Check it out below.
In an interview with Total Film Magazine, Coster-Waldau had a few words about jumping into the shoes of one of the most hated and, oddly enough, most loved characters on the show:
“I loved him from the very beginning, when I read the script for the pilot and it ends with him shagging his sister, pushing an innocent kid out the window and then saying, “The things I do for love…” It was just the contradiction – it was interesting. And then, of course, I was told what would happen later seasons if we ever got that far… He’s a great, great character.”
He also had a tiny bit to say about Jaime’s transition now that he’s back in King’s Landing and having to deal with his crazy-as-fuck sister and family again:
“I really liked the fact that the Prince Charming hair is gone, although I miss the mud, to be honest! But one of the great things about being on that show is it changes and you get to do different things every year. Of course now he’s back and clearly he was in need of a shower, but it also goes a little deeper than that. I guess in many ways he’s kind of reinventing himself – he had a bit of an identity crisis when he lost his hand and now he’s looking for a fresh start… or at least he tries to, as much as he can being in that family.”
Of course, if you’ve read the books you know exactly what’s in store for Jaime. And, in my opinion, the twists and turns that the character takes as time moves on turn him into easily one of the best characters in the entire series.
What say thee, Nerd Readers? What do non-reader GoT fans think of Jaime? Do you still want to push him out of a window or has he grown on you?
Check out the new season of Game of Thrones when it hits HBO on April 6th.
Thanks to Total Film Magazine for the interview.
