While filming some outside scenes in Mermaid Quay in Cardiff, Wales for the upcoming Doctor Who season, Peter Capaldi had a moment with a young Doctor Who fan. The meeting between the two proves that while Capaldi might not have two hearts like the Doctor, he certainly has one big enough to handle the job.Let’s start with a picture:
Now before you just assume that it’s nice that he took a picture with a young fan and wonder why it would rate a post on NerdBastards, let’s look at some of the details. The little girl’s Aunt posted this comment about the meeting:
Hiya, the little girl in the dalek outfit is my niece, she’s autistic and was finding it difficult coming to terms with the regeneration as Matts doctor is her imaginary friend, she was worried PCap wouldn’t want to play with her. We are very ecstatic that he took time to reassure her. He’s brilliant!
Her mother also wrote a wonderful post about the meeting and how that day came about.
Peter and Jenna where lovely and so understanding. Even though Roxann wouldn’t look at them or talk…which is due to her autism. She took everything in that was being said to her by peter. We spent about 10mins with them and I can not express how over joyed and thankful I am to the crew for making both my daughters dreams come true.
Here’s some video of the meeting. It’s kind of hard to hear, but we’ve got some gifs below that will show you what Capaldi had to say.
Once again we find that not only does the new star of the show have a big heart, but the entire Doctor Who cast and crew. When you read the rest of her mother’s post you’ll find that once the show’s crew found out about the little girl, it went right up the chain and everyone pitched in to help ease that little girl’s fears.
The Doctor’s companion Jenna Coleman was right there with Capaldi, just like a good Doctor Who companion.
As hectic as a television set can be during shooting, especially shooting outside with all the outside distractions and complications (Weather, Lighting, Noise) these simple acts of kindness mean a lot to those involved. It says a lot about the character of the show that the Doctor Who cast and crew would take the time out to make this happen.
