You’d have to go to Amish country to find someone who hasn’t heard about the Internet Hoopla that flared off when Michael B. Jordan‘s casting as Johnny Storm was first rumored, and then later confirmed. Just about everyone on the Internet has put in their two cents, now we get to hear what the man himself thinks.Jordan was recently in Rome at a film event and answered questions from the press and audience. Luckily for us, the Italian site Cinefilos.it was there to capture the moment.

Here’s the text of what Jordan had to say about the controversy over his being cast as Johnny Storm:

It was expected. You kinda know going into it that people are used to seeing something one way, it’s a continuity thing more than anything. People don’t like change too much. But annoyed? Eh, you just kinda accept it, it is what it is. You can’t make everybody happy. You just gotta accept that and know. I’m an actor, I have to do my job. I’m going to do my job the best I can and the way I’ve been doing it my entire life, my entire career. I grew up a comic book guy, I read comic books as a kid growing up, and the Fantastic Four/Human Torch is one of my favorite characters so I’m going to give it my everything. I can’t wait. I don’t really let it bother me at all. I just want to go into it and do the best job I can. We’ll see what happens.

When asked about why he took the role Jordan said:

The Human Torch is, ‘yknow, that’s fun. That’s going to be a good time…To play a superhero? That’s dreams coming true. It’s not going to be hard. It’s going to be fun to kind of show a side of me that I don’t really get to show on screen, to be a little bit lighter, funnier, just more personality. It’s going to be fun.

Sounds like he’s really into the character and understands that prankster side of the Torch. There will still be people who criticize this casting, even when Jordan’s Torch knocks it out of the park on the big screen, (Jordan is a talented actor and I have full confidence that he will). People will still squawk on the Internet about it.
Jordan is also involved in a Rocky sequel in which he’ll play the grandson of Apollo Creed who turns to Rocky for training when his own family won’t support his dreams of entering the boxing ring. I have to say that I really like this idea. It’s better than my idea of Rocky fighting in an illegal Retirement Home fight club.

Jordan is joined by Miles Teller (Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara (Sue Storm), Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm). Jordan’s friend Josh Trank directs this rebootof the Fantastic Four frenchise using Simon Kinberg’s screenplay. The Fantastic Four hits theater screens June 19th, 2015.
