No whining and complaining, folks. With the proliferation of remakes, reboots and unneeded sequels in our day-and-age, it was only a matter of time before someone went back to pillage the Zorro franchise. This time it’s Sony and now they’ve got themselves an honest-to-goodness writer onboard in the form of Chris Boal.
Who is Chris Boal, you ask? Nobody yet. His primarily a writer for stage that has been attached to several adaptations in recent years. So sorry folks, there’s nothing to tap yet when looking for examples of his work. He’ll be working under producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald to get this thing done.
In case you don’t know about the new version of Zorro, it looks like they’re taking it the “dark and gritty” route. It has been compared to Dark Knight in the stylization, though somehow I doubt that it will measure up to that particular franchise with regards to excellence. Still, we’re getting a Zorro reboot whether we like it or not.
Thanks to Deadline for the heads-up.
