I know we’re all anxious for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is coming out about five months after Thor: The Dark World. And then in August, about five months from now, we get the next Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy, which is the start of a lengthy nine month wait until the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. In other words, that’s a long time in our limited attention span age for more fun and adventures from our favorite Marvel heroes. So might the studio be considering it time to up their game, and try putting out three films per year? The boss of Marvel Studios teases the possibilities.

In an interview with Badass Digest, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige says that if Marvel movies continue on their trajectory of success, then there may be too much love for the brand, and too many franchises to keep moviegoers busy, to merely settle for a scant two films per year. Here are the producer’s comments:

“I don’t know that we will necessarily say “Okay, we’re now moving strategically to three a year, now we’re moving to four a year.” What I think is more likely – if [knocks on wood-like table] the next group of movies work and people want to see additional stories – we’ll have too many franchises and you can’t do one of each franchise every two or three years. We’d have to move to three a year.”

It makes sense. Fans have been wondering what Marvel might do if Guardians of the Galaxy turns out to be as big as past Marvel movie hits; how can they have room for Thor 3, Captain America 3, Ant Man, and Guardians 2, as well as possibly Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and a Black Widow solo film, between Age of Ultron and Avengers 3, all while only releasing two films per year? The truth is they can’t.

But has Marvel already started to make a move towards a three-film per year slate. Cinema Blend proposes that they are suggesting that the studio is plotting an additional 2015 release in the fall slot vacated by Ant Man when Marvel moved it to a late summer release date. As things stand, that’s about a year between the release of Ant Man and the planned release of Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016. So might they sneak in Thor 3 for fall 2015? Doctor Strange maybe? Stay tuned.
