As the April 6th premiere date for the fourth season of HBO and George R.R. Martin‘s Game of Thrones keeps creeping closer and closer, we’re getting some fantastic looks into the characters involved, as well as some great behind the scenes looks at the series. This time there’s one about the Bastards of Westeros and the costumes of season four.
Before you get to the featurettes, let’s take a moment to recap where the story stands as season four begins.
Encouraged by the Red Wedding slaughter in the Riverlands that wiped out many of their Stark nemeses, the Lannisters’ hold on the Iron Throne remains intact … but can they survive their own egos, as well as new and ongoing threats from the south, north and east? While an unbowed Stannis Baratheon continues to rebuild his army in Dragonstone, a more immediate danger comes from the south, as Oberyn Martell, the Lannister-loathing “Red Viper of Dorne,” arrives at King’s Landing to attend Joffrey’s wedding to Margaery Tyrell, and perhaps act on an ulterior agenda. In the north, a depleted Night’s Watch seems overmatched against the inexorable Wall advances of Mance Rayder’s army of wildlings, which in turn is being trailed by an even more formidable foe: the undead White Walkers. As if that weren’t enough, Daenerys Targaryen, accompanied by her menacing trio of dragons and army of Unsullied, is poised to liberate Meereen, the largest city in Slaver’s Bay, which could ultimately provide her with enough ships to sail to Westeros and reclaim the Iron Throne.
If you thought things were getting bad after the Red Wedding, we really haven’t seen anything yet. Season four promises to rock our Game of Thrones world with all the suffering and misery we can take. Brace yourself to see some of your favorite characters endure unbelievable hardship.
This first featurette is about the Bastards of Westeros and would make a great primer for any of your friends and relatives that watch the show with you, but haven’t read the books yet, no matter how many outrageous offers you try to bribe them with.
Bastards of Westeros:
That’s a pretty intense look into some of the more interesting characters in the series. The look into the polar opposites of character, Jon Snow and Ramsey Snow, really helps set the stage for why they do what they do.
The costumes of Game of Thrones season four continues the established trend of incredible costumes. This second featurette looks into the costumes of season four. It’s easy to see that the costume designers of season four are looking to raise the bar higher than ever before. It’s a Cosplayer’s wet dream of Westeros. The little touches are what really makes these stand out.
The Making of Season Four Costumes:
What did you think? The description of the wedding crowns was very interesting. Those kind of in-depth touches might be missed while viewing the episode just because there is so much going on.
Now that we know about it, it adds more texture to the scene. I imagine once the Cosplay world gets a look at that wedding dress we’ll see it around the convention circuit. It is incredible.
What are you looking forward to the most in the fourth season? Seeing the much bigger dragons, Joffrey’s wedding, White Walkers?
